Accommodation in Merzouga Dunes

For general knowledge, I here state and give information about the prices of hotels in the dunes of erg chebbi also known as the dunes of Merzouga, South Morocco.

The Dunes of Merzouga are simply of the the best things Morocco has to offer in terms of Sahara desert Destinations. Comparing them to other parts of Sahara in Morocco its almost not possible.

Around the dunes of Merzouga, which have the shape of a been, 33km wide, there are 3 bigger villages: Merzouga, Hassilabied and Khamlyia (the village of the Black Men ).

In the head of the dunes, 11km from hassilabied, also in one of the most special places around the dunes, there are a few hotels, these are not near any village, they are isolated and can be easily reached by local transportation Mercedes Van cargo bus type, you can contact a specifc hotel to pick you up with their 4×4 ( 4WD ) or you can drive yourself in the desert tracks.

Also all these 3 villages I mentioned there have a few hotels, auberges and people that organize excursions and camel trek inside the dunes.

Destinations for Sahara dunes in Morocco are:

• Mhamid Desert
• Chegaga Dunes

Why Merzouga Dunes!?

From all these ones, the best are Merzouga and Chegaga. The others are also nice but should be left if you wish to experience really cool destinations.

Tinfou dunes are just 2 DUNES! so you go all the way to see sahara and you’ll see just: 2 dunes. surrounding landscapes are great but if you’re on a short journey, its to much kilometers just for that.

High season in erg chebbi dunes merzouga are:

• 2 weeks in april during vacations
• last 2 week of july and 2 weeks of august

HOTELS IN MERZOUGA DUNES

Around this dunes like i explained, there are many hotels and desert inns that you can choose from. You have different quality but basically all will make you love the region. Now depends how much you wish to pay to accommodate yourself in the dunes.

How do the hotels look like in the dunes?

Well, they all are build in the traditional way, clay and straw mixed with cement.

TENTS IN THE DESERT

This service of sleeping in the tents is offered by all hotels and desert inns in merzouga and around the dunes of erg chebbi. The price you pay depends in what you get. You can pay up to 80 euros or 160 euros for a private oasis with your own tents, but the cheapest price to stay will be around 8 or 10 euros breakfast included. The average price for this service is around 15 euros up to 20. Also a good deal is to get a camel excursion into the desert and sleep overnight in a oasis, hal board costs 30 or 35 euros. This should be the best deal. you get food, transportation and sleep.
