The boats going from Algeciras to Africa are quite different depending if you’re going to Ceuta (Autonomous Spanish city in North Africa) or to Tangier (First Moroccan city on the North).

Boats going to Ceuta are good quality one, fast, clean and the ones going to Morocco directly are 3 times slower, not dirty of course (sometimes the bathrooms stink), but built maybe 30 years ago. instead of actually spending 30 minutes inside the boat you can spend up to 3 hours. Its up to you.

If you’re going by car you should avoid tangier because is much quite easier to enter from Ceuta, but if you’re going walking and public transport you should go to tangier. price to tangier is a bit cheaper also.

Gibraltar ahead on the picture. You can go from Algeciras either to Tangier or Ceuta. On both ways you’ll find beautiful both the mountains of Gibraltar and the mountains of Melloussa in Morocco.

Super Fast Ferry-Boat to Morocco

ferry boat europe to africa spain to morocco algeciras or tarifa to ceuta or tangier

This is the fastest way of going to Morocco. The Boat just takes half hour up to 3hours depending which one you take (the slow boat or the fast boat). When i go by car I used to go to Ceuta cos gas was almost half the price than in Spain and Morocco.

Ceuta is an independent city that belongs to Spain. Tax-free zone. Right now, the fuel price in Ceuta is no longer apealing so the last 5 trips I made to Morocco I got the Super Thunder-Cat Fast Ferry Boat in Tarifa.

Tarifa to Tanger Ferry Boat

The other option is to go directly from Tarifa or Algeciras to Tangier. This way all the passport formalities will be done inside the ferry boat. As soon as you arrive you’ll be already in Morocco so you don’t need to do much about border formalities.

  1. Please advise where i get tickets from for the tarifa to tangiers super fast ferry. Thanks

  2. hello jon, thank you for visiting my site. well about buying yourself a ticket to morocco i have 2 sugestions, either you can buy it in your house using the ferry boat company’s website at http://www.frs.ma/ or you can just wait and easily buy it in Tarifa’s port. the first boat to tangier starts around 9am ans you can buy the ticket on the ticket office inside the port. the port building is where both the ticket box and the police passport checkpoint is held.

ask me more if needed. if you want more help to travel inside morocco i’m here.

    cheers

  3. hi! great information-photos, thankyou.. silly question, we are from uk, do we need visas to visit morocco? Also, are the fast ferry tickets tarifa to ceuta the same price if you buy in the port, rather than on-line’?

  4. Hello Charles, thank you for visiting my website.
About visas, no, you don’t need anything. All European Union citizens do not need visas, also Australians, Canadians, Americans and Japanese. All these nationalities above only need visas for stays of up to three months, and you can easily go around it by just going out of the country. To get another 3 months visa is very important not to go out on the limit as they might not give you the visa back making you wait at least 1 week. So if this is what you’re looking for, just go out 2 weeks before the 3 months and you’ll probably get inside on the same day with another 3 months.
    Important:
Passport valid for at least six months from date of entry required by all citizens ( altough I have some friends that got inside the country with a 2 months left passport).

if you need anything else just call the embassy in London:
    Moroccan Embassy,
    49 Queens Gate Gardens, London, SW7 5NE.
    Tel: 020 7581 5001/4 – Fax: 020 7225 3862
    (http://morocco.embassyhomepage.com/morocco_visa_moroccan_embassy_london_uk.htm)
Morocco is very safe and easy to travel so you have nothing to worry about.
About tickets, well its better to go Tarifa-Tangier rather Tarifa-Ceuta. If you do wish to go from Ceuta take the Algeciras-Ceuta Ferry Boat instead.
The border in Tarifa is easier.
    Why:
All the passport bureaucracies, you do it so easily inside the ferry boat while the ferry is heading Morocco. The system inside the ferry is very relaxed because police there just want to hurry and stamp everyone. So in about 10m 20m maximum if you rush up to the front of the line. If you want to relax, just let everyone pass in front of you while you drink and eat something in the cafeteria on the same lobby where the passport check point is. You’ll have plenty of time, so no need to rush.
So when you arrive in Morocco, you already have less one thing to do inland. Now you just have to park the car near the border, go outside and ask for a “papier vert” “green paper” for vehicle permission. fill the paper, get your insurance ready (majority of times they don’t even check if you have car insurance or not). that’s it.
Now in Ceuta, wow, a lot of things to be done…
Tell me if you need more information. Bye!

  5. Hello,
I will be taking the Catamaran from Tarifa at 11am, my concern is will parking be available, if not at the port can you recommend any nearby the port? Thanks!!!

  6. Hi,
my wife and I will be visiting Spain for the first time, and as we are spending some time in Seville, we have planned visiting Gibraltar too. Now, I want to make her a surprise, and get the ferry – no car – to Ceuta. I saw the info in this page, and it was very helpful – thank you so much for the time you spent creating it :)
Now, what can we see and do in Ceuta, for few hours? We would take an early fast ferry, and return after lunch.
Any hints, suggestions are wellcome, and yes you can also reply directly to my email.
    Thank you.
    Phil (USA)

  7. IS there any benefit to traveling from Gibraltar versus the other cities? Or, once arrived at Morocco, how easy is it to travel about? Without an auto?

  8. How do I go about getting a reservation for an automobile and four people to Tangler for the afternoon of Jan. 11, 2008 and return Tangler to Tarifa on Jan 13, 2008. Could you please give me the information I need, so I can make these reservations, Thank You.

  9. Hola, Joao,

Your website has been very helpful in planning a brief visit to Morocco. Is it possible to just go to Tangiers for one day and “see a lot”? We’ll have a rental car and will be traveling from Tarifa in mid-October. Is Ceuta a better destination for a day trip? We’d really like to get the feeling of being in a different part of the world and if Ceuta is a lot like being in Andalucia, I’d like a slightly different experience.

Hope all is good in your world,
    Nina

  10. Hi I will be travelling to Tangiers in december and was wondering what fast ferries there are from Algecrias. They seem to leave mostly from Tarifa. We will be travelling from Cordoba by train and I dont believe the train can take us to Tarifa?

  11. i want to travel to gibralter from moroco do let me no wat it will take me to do this.

  12. Hi there. All your content here has been really helpful. I was wondering if you might be able to fill me in on a couple of things. I have one central issue. I am wanting to drive down into the south of Morocco for a surf adventure. I have an older vehicle and I am concerned about it not making it. I know that there are tight restrictions on leaving vehicles in the country and wonder what would happen if the car were to die. Do you have any information on this or any other types of circumstances, ie the car gets stolen. I know they make note of a car in you passport so how exactly do you get out if your car doesn’t make it. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

  13. hi there. i am travelling to morocco by motorbike in 4 weeks time from the uk. what would be the most favorable and quickest crossing to use to morocco from spain. is it a straight forward procedure to get ferry tickets just prior to oarding or would it be better to book well in advance?

  14. As an Australian to I need to get a visa to go to Moorocco from spain by ferry.
    Thanks Jane

  15. I am hiring a car in Spain and I would like to cross with the car to Morocco. I wonder how difficult it is to cross from Spain to Morocco in a hired car. I would be very grateful for any advice or if have done it before.

  19. Can you give some advice about travelling from Malaga to Fez please. We want to be able to do the journey in one day. What do you think is the best way? Thanks

  20. We are 3 from bc/Canada and would like to know the answr to one of the questions already asked .If on foot in Ceuta ,do you have to go far to see it or is it just a small tourist trap. I want to get the feel of the country a bit as I have 2 of my granchildren with me.?

  21. a quelle heure fery vien tanger algeciras cest soire

  22. Hi there
We’re taking a car from the UK to Morocco – we as some others previously are having issues with obtaining insurance from any companies here, so just wondered if going into Melillia was an option for obtaining insurance either on the ferry or at the border ? We are also concerned that the car might not make it out of Morocco (it is quite old), and were wondering how we might be able to show that the car is ‘dead’ to the authorities if we have to leave it there.
    Best regards

  23. i need to know if there is a ferry from algeciras to morroco or fez in the month of november……………..please, i really need to know. i am trying to book a trip from pennsylvania, usa to spain and so far i have been unsuccessful finding a schedule for ferry for that route. gracias

  24. could be you’ve gotten no reply because Fes isn’t a port town, and your question makes it obvious you didn’t do this slightest bit of research. It is also why you couldn’t find a ferry trip. I’d suggest pulling up a map. It will be very useful you will find in traveling, and will quit adding to the ranks of the Americans that are an embarrassment insofar as their knowledge of anything outside the borders.

  25. Hi 6 of us want to go to Tangier for a day trip on 23 March 2009 – I am having trouble finding a ferry for that day – can you help?

  31. Sure is mighty quiet around here. Guess Joao got tired of answering stupid questions about three years ago.

People, please! If you can find this web site you should be able to find Google and Wiki and answer most of these questions for yourself.

  32. I have been told that i can get car insurance at the port in ceuta? is this still the case? i have also heard that they have closed the shop and is now shut? i cannot get insurance for morocco from the uk and a little worried about getting it in the ferry port.

    thanks

    • Hey Alex! look I have passed in Ceuta 1 year ago and there was still the insurance shop open, I don’t know about now but I find it very strange that is not. I bet 95% bad information. but, nevertheless why you don’t go from Tarifa to Tangier? trip is better, faster, cheaper, passport on the boat, and insurance on the border. ?

      safe travels!
